One of our members, Nicole, just got back from India and sent us these photos and information from her trip. Thanks for sharing!
I have been travelling to India recently and it was a nice surprise for me to see a lady sitting on the street of a small town KNITTING. By her daughter who spoke english, I learned that she was knitting a sweater with medium size straight needles. The lady was happy that I noticed her work and naturally, I told her I was a knitter too.

And the last evening of my trip (our flight was at 3 :00 A.M.), at a handicraft market, there were knitted socks from the Himalaya region. These were well knitted with a thick wool, probably the parts of wool that they cannot use for the pashmina shawls. Some of them had a separate big toe, like you can see on the picture. A pair would cost around $7.00 but I had no more rupees…

And at the airport in Delhi, I had forgotten in my hand luggage a tiny pair of folding scissors and they took them. One of the blades was too sharp. Since it was a souvenir from a lacemaker convention, I asked what I could do. Finally, my scissors came in a large sealed envelope that I could pick up in Montreal, thanks to the collaboration of the Lufthansa people.
My knitting needles were in my suitcase and I did not have time to touch them one minute in three weeks!
